DATES: 13 - 21 March 2010

It’s a fantastic must do! The Rotorua Walking Festival is now an eight day week of fun, fellowship, and non competitive leisure walking activities with over 30 walks to choose from in addition to the world renown International Walks on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st. The walks are not competitive but provide recreational walkers with great scenery, fun, fellowship, and a real sense of achievement when completed and all are open to everyone to enter.ks

The Festival Walks

This new development has walks and activities programmed each day of the festival to cater to a range of abilities and interests from beginners to experts. The range includes gentle strolls to extended walks, dog walk, Nordic walking, 22 hour teams relay, tiny tots, history walk, nocturnal walk, activities for wheelchairs and guide dogs, and several long walks for the experienced. Most are free and do not require entry however prior contact with the particular organiser would be appreciated.

The International Walks

These world renown walks feature a 10km each day, 21km half marathon and 42km full marathon on Saturday, a 5km, 20km and 30km on Sunday. On Saturday the walks go through some of the stunning bush and forest scenery tracks in the 'Redwoods' and 'Whaka' forests. Then on Sunday the walks go largely through the city suburbs, CBD, gardens and parks, thermal reserves, lakeshore bird sanctuary and points of Rotorua historic and cultural interest. These walks require entry registration and attract fees.

Hundreds of overseas, out of town, and local walkers participate each year in the International Walks for fun, fellowship, and entertainment, with a real sense of achievement (medals and certificates are awarded) when completed. You are invited to come on your own or make up a group. You will soon make more friends or meet up with your old ones walking in Rotorua.
